I'm writing this post because I want it to be publicly known how absolutely amazing my Mom is. The older I get, the less important birthdays feel to me. It's kind of sad because I used to be the person that always felt your loved ones should do whatever it takes to make you feel extra special on your birthday, so much so that it turned out being one of the best days of the entire year, if not the very best! But I think the older we get, the more ashamed we become of our age and the less we like to celebrate our life. Why is that? Life is unpredictable, life is short, life is meaningful, life is beautiful and you've just lived it for a whole other year - so why would you ever go a single birthday without celebrating!?
We live in a world where things like birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays are only fun as a child, but it doesn't have to be that way. You can change that by changing your attitude, and changing the way you celebrate not only your birthday, but your loved one's birthdays as well. And there are more ways to make them feel special than spending hundreds of dollars on them. You likely know this person inside and out. So think about what they really like. Surprise them! Do something out of the ordinary. Year after year. Always keep them on their toes. Make them feel SPECIAL and LOVED.
I know my Mom deserves more than I could ever give her. Her and my Dad have given me everything I could ever want and so much more. There's no way I could ever pay them back, no matter how much money I make or how many ways I am able to make them feel special. And for that I will forever be reminding myself to surprise them and make them feel appreciated and loved every little chance I get.
So happy birthday, Mom - the one woman I would be COMPLETELY lost without. And I'm not just saying that because you gave birth to me and I wouldn't exist without you. ;)
P.S. I hope you enjoyed rocking out at the Cher concert :P xo Ali Bee
(This isn't the best of photographs of us, but I added this one because I remember this moment SO well. I was a teenager, away on vacation away from my boyfriend at the time, also on my monthly lady time... basically you could say I was feeling really down this night. You know those teenage girl blues, right? My mom knew just how to cheer me up and she still does. I love being able to remember little moments like this, and I love how a camera can capture them. This is why it's so important to take more pictures that you'll ever want/need! You never know which one's will later become very special and treasured for generations to come.)
