So you've just received your disc of high-resolution images from your latest session with me, Ali Bee Photography. You know it's a digital world and you COULD simply upload the sharing friendly images to Facebook and all your friends would see and "like" them. Or you could do something seriously unique with them! Turn the images you happen to be the star of into a piece of artwork. Transfer them to wood!
I know what you're probably thinking right about now, "that sounds complicated... I'm not creative enough." My response... no worries, here's a step by step how-to and you ARE creative enough! I've never done this myself and I really wanted to know how to do it so I can do it... so I did a lot of researching and this is one of the best and easiest ways I came across. Let's get started...
Supplies:
A photocopy of your chosen image
An unfinished wood panel
Paint Brushes
Some type of old credit or gift card
Water
Sponge
- Step 1: Apply a thick coat of Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium to the surface of your photocopied image.
- Step 2: Flip image photo side down and press against your unfinished wood panel
- Step 3: Use your old credit or gift card to smooth out the image against the wood panel. Be sure to remove any air bubbles and creases.
- Step 4: Time to let it completely dry so pour a cup of hot cocoa and tune into your favorite show on Netflix.
- Step 5: Take your sponge and get it damp with some water. Dab the paper one small section at a time.
- Step 6: Rub the paper gently and you'll begin to notice the paper rub off and your image will be on the wood!
- Step 7: It may take a few steps of rubbing all over until all the paper is off. Sometimes it works best if you rub the whole surface, let it dry, then go back and do it again.
- Step 8: Once all the paper is off, take your Mod Podge Matte and paint a layer of it on top of the image on the wood panel. This will give it a protective coat.
- Step 9: Voilà! You've got a masterpiece... now go hang it or set it on your mantel or something. :P
Hope you all enjoyed this little tutorial and if you want to see more DIY ideas for your images, be sure to let me know down in the comments below! Happy crafting! :) xo Ali Bee
